Early Life and Childhood
Kim Scott Mathers, whose full name is Kimberly Ann Scott, was born and raised in Warren, Michigan on 9th January, 1975, along with her twin sister Dawn Scott. They were born to a woman named Kathleen Doherty. Kimberly and twin sister Dawn had a pretty rough life growing up, and in the year 1988, when both the girls were around thirteen years of age, they ran away from home and relocated to a youth shelter just outside of Detroit.
Meeting With Eminem
Kimberly Ann Scott and Eminem first came across each other during a house party they were both attending. Kimberly was 13 and Eminem was around 15 years old.
Eminem was quoted saying that at the house party, he was standing on top of the coffee table at the host’s house with his shirt off with a Kongol on, singing along the lyrics of LL Cool J’s, I’m Bad, when upon turning around, he saw Kimberly standing by the door and smoking. He recalled this incident in his 2014 book, How It All Got Started: Lessons in Life, Art and Entrepreneurship from Hip Hop Icons.
Soon after they met at a house party, Eminem and Kim started an on-again, off-again relationship, and at one-point Eminem brought Kim to his mom, telling her she needed a place to stay. Kim was then taken in by Eminem’s mother, Debbie Nelson. Soon after though, truant officers started looking around for her continued absence from school.
